There are so many things that we need to remember...
we need to remember to feed our animals;
we need to remember to water our flowers;
we need to remember to brush our teeth;
we need to remember to take our medicine.
We, as people, need reminders all the time.
Why is it that we need to be reminded that the Lord of the universe knows just what He is doing in our lives?
Why is it that we need to be reminded of His power?
Why is it that we need to be reminded that He goes before us?
I am camping out in Joshua 3 and 4 right now.
3 vs. 8
" Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: When you reach the edge of the Jordan's waters, go and stand in the river."
Why in the world would the Lord have these guys do this during this time of year? Stand in the river?The Jordan river was rushing water because it was harvest time. Think about it logically, you'd be swept away from the current, or sink because of the waters depth . Does this sound like something the Lord is asking you to do right now? Take a step of faith, knowing that He is in control?
Scott and I are in the midst of our step as we embark on his own handyman service.
Why Lord would you have us do this during this season, the economy is so bad?
Not many people are having work done, why would you want us to do this right now?
3 vs.15-16
"Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away..."
Wow, truly amazing!
the waters were rushing, the people were obedient, and the Lord showed them up. What a miracle, to walk across on dry ground during the harvest season. Unfathomable! But that is how awesome our God is... He does the unfathomable in our lives. So Scott and I take the step of faith... like the Israelites did, even though it looked as if their lives would be taken and they'd be swept away. Lord, we are being obedient to your call. We will do what you say, we will follow you where ever you call us. Even if it's through hard times, this hard economy, and through high waters. We believe that YOU hold our future in your hands, and you know what is best for us. We take more steps.
4 vs. 4-7
"So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, 'Go over before the ark of the Lord you God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. in the future when your children ask you, 'what do these stones mean?' tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever."

HHMMM... a memorial... something to remember what happened. Even back then they needed reminders. Today we still need reminders as well. Scott and I will be building our own stone memorial as we continue walking through our Jordan. Lord, we are thankful that you have already seen us through... and we are excited to follow you through our Jordan.
